Weekend Roundup
The throwers and jumpers were in action this weekend with the highlight being a massive hammer throw of 46.30m by U15B Charlie Elford Pond (coach Jeremry Clifton) which saw him improve his own club record by over 4m and move into the top 4 in the current UK age group rankings in a throws only open meeting in Winchester on Sunday. Charlie also putted a pb of 11.80m with the 4kg shot but that was just short of making the clubs all time top 3 list and he also threw 31.85m with the discus which is just short of his best discus performance from a week earlier. At the same meeting, U20W Tamsin Hoult (coach Martin McBriar) threw the hammer just 3cm short of her own club record with 26.59m and also threw the discus for the first time this season recording a distance of 18.43m. U15B Harry Jones (coach Heather Sheffield) improves his javelin performance with every competition and did so again by throwing 29.24m for another pb. Heptathlete Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) improved her 3rd place performance on the all-time WADAC U17 womens lists by adding another metre to her javelin pb with a throw of 31.14m.The clubs two best female high jumpers were in action in a high class field in an open meeting in Bournemouth also on Sunday. High jump meetings have been hard to find this summer but U17W Lara Scott-Rule (coach Andy Fisher) got her season up and running in style by winning with a leap of 1.66m on her debut for the club to put her 2nd on the clubs all time list and move to 7th in the age group UK rankings. Not far behind her was England Youth International U20W Jess Gordon (coach Tony Bateman) who took 4th place with a jump of 1.63m.
