Weekend Update

With the number of track & field meetings continuing to grow in this strangest of extended seasons, WADAC athletes were out in force at the weekend. The highlight was U20 decathlete Oliver Thatcher (coach Andy Fisher) who ran the 110m hurdles for the first time in Yeovil on Saturday and was rewarded with a time of 15.90 secs which was good enough to go to 2nd in the clubs all time records list. A number of athletes were in action at the Southampton Open meeting on Saturday. In a series of 800m races, U17 Doug Scally (coach Mike Chambers) went under the 2min mark for the first time and senior man Ben Healey (coached out of club) ran a seasons best time just a smidge under 1.57 and also ran 53.26 for the 400m. Fellow senior man Calum Upton (coach Dave Vosser) also put in a seasons best performance running just over 2.02 for the 800m. In the 1500m races, club stalwart Sue True (coach Dave Vosser) ran a seasons best of 5.09. In the sprints U17 Ed Fillbrook (coach Andy Fisher) ran a pb of 12.08 in the 100m into a strong headwind and U17 woman Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) made her debut for the club by running 27.66 in the 200m.In Nuneaton on Sunday two of our fantastic group of Masters athletes were in action at the Nuneaton Masters Open with Kathryn Miles (coach George Ogilvie) running 13.71 to go 5th in the UK 100m V45 ranking list and 29.13 to go 9th in the same age group lists for 200m. Moira West (self coached) went top of the V70 UK 200m rankings with a blistering 35.21 and Moira also ran a windy 100m time of 16.35.In the City of Portsmouth AC track open meeting on Sunday Ben Healey finished a busy weekend improving on his 400m time the day before by running a seasons best of 53.07. Senior man Jack Wergan (coach Dave Vosser) showed he has put the lockdown to good use by improving his 3000m time by a huge 40 secs from his U17 days by running 9.08.53 and Dave Vosser himself (self coached) ran just over 11 mins at same distance in his first 3000m race in well over a year. Finally some exciting news from the previous weekend when I reported that Harry Crosby (coach Andy Fisher) had leapt an enourmous 7.20m (windy) to win the South of England Covid games title. The organisers have confirmed that Harry's series included a wind legal jump of 6.96m which is good enough to break the U17 mens club record set by GB junior international Kieran Showler-Davis that has stood since 2008. It is also the 3rd furthest any man has long jumped in the history of the club.
