Results catch up

Nearly up to date with the club's recent track & field results with the weekend of the 19th/20th June being a particularly memorable one. The national U20 & U23 champs took place at Bedford which also acted as the trials for the European U20 & U23 champs. Sam Clifton (coach Jermemy Clifton) threw a pb of 54.69m in the U20 hammer on the Saturday taking a fine 7th place, the same place he occupies in the UK rankings, and it goes without saying this is a new club record. Harry Crosby (coach Andy Fisher) competed in the U20 Long Jump on the Sunday, leaping out to 7.14m to take the bronze medal and winning the club its first U20 medal at an outdoor track & field national championships for many years. Harry just missed out on selection for the GB U20 team for the European champs but remains in the age group for another year. Oliver Thatcher (coach Andy Fisher) competed in the HJ but didn't perform well although we have more exciting news about Oliver to come.
nOn the Sunday the club fielded its youngest ever team in its first SAL match of the season in Basingstoke. The club came 4th on the day which is a fair representation of where we are with the senior squad right now as we look to retain more young athletes into the senior age groups. There were, however, some amazing performances on the day, the highlight being Calum Upton (coach Dave Vosser) running a huge pb of 6.10.2 in the 2K steeplechase. After round 1 the club places 34th out of the 92 clubs competing in the league this season.
nOn Friday just gone, Stuart McCallum (coached out of club) was the club's sole representative at the British senior championships and as already reported he ran a fine race to finish 7th in his heat.
nIt was also the evening of a sprint open series at the Winchester track where our young stars put in some amazing performances, the highlight being a rapid run of 10.85 secs in the 75m for U11 girl Amalie Calliste (U11 Academy) which is the fastest ever run over the distance by this age group for the club.
