Club takes home huge medal haul from county championships
The club took home no fewer than 51 medals from the county championships in Portsmouth this bank holiday weekend, amounting to 17 gold, 25 silver and 9 bronze which adds to the 1 gold and 1 silver earned on 26 May in the u15s combined events. This makes WADAC the most successful club in the competition to date.
nFor the senior women Heather Sheffield (self coached) led the way taking home 3 throwing silver medals in shot, discus and javelin respectively.
nFor the Ssenior men Ben Healey (coached out of club) was the club's sole representative and he was just out of the medals in 4th place in the 800m.
nIn the U20 women's age group Tamsin Hoult (coach Martin McBriar) took home 3 medals winning gold in the shot and silver in the hammer and discus. Tamsin was also 4th in the javelin. Rebecca Mitchell (coach Claire Mitchell) ran a huge pb for silver in the 400m and also took silver in the 400m hurdles where Emily Weeks (coach Gary Bettridge) was 4th.
nSam Clifton (coach Jeremy Clifton) took hammer gold in the U20 men's age group.
nFor the U17 women, Emma Shedden (coach Gary Bettridge) won 300m hurdles gold. Jasmine Gordon (coach Martin McBriar) threw a huge pb of 34.80m to take silver in the javelin and go 2nd on the club's all time age group list and also won bronze in the hammer. Sister Amelia Gordon (coach Martin McBriar) was just out of the medals in 4th place in shot and discus. Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) won long jump silver and was 4th in the javelin whilst Millie Cutts (coach Andy Fisher) finished 4th in the triple jump.
nIn the U17 men' age group Charlie Elford Pond (coach Martin McBriar) is in a purple patch of form right now and took hammer gold in a new pb and shot put silver. Charlie was also 4th in discus. Sam Mballa (coach Heather Sheffield) took triple jump gold and silver in the 400m hurdles and was also 6th in the discus.
n For the U15 girls Grace Weeks (coach Gary Bettridge) took sprint hurdles gold and ran a new pb to take silver in the 200m. Talya Wright (coach Gary Bettridge) was 3rd in her heat of the 200m. Mia Judd has had a remarkable improvement since turning to high jump under coach Tony Bateman and took gold with a fine leap of 1.55m. Lois Moore (coach Andy Fisher) took silver in the same event. Carys Jeffries (coach Andy Fisher) took silver in the 300m and bronze in the sprint hurdles and also made the final of the 100m where she finished 8th. Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) returned from an incredible weekend in Manchester to take gold in long jump and javelin. Rosa-May Sprake (coached out of club) took discus gold and Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) won the silver medal in discus and shot and took bronze in the hammer throw. Casey Callear (coach Martin McBrar) won a silver medal in the hammer with a huge pb that takes her 2nd on the club's all time list.
nIn the U15 boys age group Oscar Webb (coach Tony Bateman) won high jump gold and sprint hurdles silver. Max Turner (coach Andy Fisher) also took home two medals with 3rd place in the long jump & a silver medal in the 300m. Toby Roberts (coach Ernie Chambers) took home triple jump silver and was 9th in the long jump. Sam Nicholson (coach Andy Fisher) was just out of the medals with a close 4th place in the discus and Sam was also 5th in the javelin and 6th in the long jump. Ben Bewick (coach Ernie Chambers) was 4th in the 100m and Harry Jones (coach Martin McBriar) took the same position in the javelin, as did Ruben Price (coach Nick Anderson) in the 1500m.
nLucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) was the star of the show in the U13 age group. Lucia won no less than 3 gold medals in the sprint hurdles, 200m & high jump and also took the silver medal in the long jump and will no doubt be looking forward to the multi-event county champs next weekend. The throws squad were also in great shape in this age group with Abi McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) and Beth Mballa (coach Heather Sheffield) taking home 3 medals each. Abi took gold in the discus and bronze in the shot & javelin with Beth taking shot put silver, javelin silver (and a place on the club's all time top 3 list) and discus bronze. Lily Flute (coach Andy Fisher) was 5th in the high jump, 8th in the long jump and made the final in both 100m & 200m and will be back in the age group next year. Bethan Bewick (coach Dave Sherry) also made the 200m final although didn't take her place in the starting line up. Isobel Jordan (coach Andy Fisher) finished 4th in the high jump and was 6th in her 100m & 200m heats.Like his training partner Lucia, Zac Reynolds (coach Andy Fisher) also took home 4 medals winning the 200m & 800m gold, the 100m silver and taking the bronze in the javelin for the full set. Ned Scott (coach Martin McBriar) won the javelin gold. Casper Wilson (coach Nick Anderson) won 1500m silver to complete the huge medal haul for the club.
