Natasha takes national title
A further sign of the growing track & field depth at the club was the fact that no fewer than 6 athletes took part in the national age group (U15/U17) champs that took place in Manchester last weekend. Despite very strict qualifying criteria the club was represented in walk, hurdle, run, jump & throw and brought home its first national track & field title for many years.
nThis honour went to Natasha Mitchell (coach Claire Mitchell) who won the U17 womens 5000m walk title with a time under 27 mins.
nThe club also took home 2 bronze medals with Rosa-May Sprake (coached out of club) winning bronze on countback in a very exciting U15 girls discus contest. Rosa threw just 1cm short of her club record with 30.31m and finished ahead of team mate Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) who was 6th with her best throw of 29.60m. Arabella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) also took bronze in the U15 girls 300m running under 41 secs and this was after a disappointing long jump where Bella finished 7th with a jump of 5.07m.
nPoppy Shroff (coach Andy Fisher) was 6th in her heat of the U17 womens 80m hurdles and Liv Busher (coached out of club) finished just outside the medals in 4th in the U17 womens javelin.
