WADAC enjoys its very own Super Sunday
A healthy representation of 7 WADAC athletes made the trip to Sheffield to take part in the National indoor age group championships the highlight of the indoor track & field season for those in the U20, U17 & U15 age groups. The event took place on Saturday & Sunday and was live streamed on youtube by England Athletics.
nSaturday was an appetiser for what was to come on Sunday. U17M Oscar Webb (coach Tony Bateman) unfortunately didn't have his best day and no heighted in the high jump. Qualification for the U17M 800m was tough but Ollie Withers (coached out of club) ran well to record an indoor pb and break the clubs age group indoor club record with a time just a smidge outside 2 mins and 3 secs. Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) ran superbly to qualify for the final of the U15 girls 300m as did Bella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) getting through heats and a semi-final to make the 300m final for the U17W age group. Amy Wall (coach Andy Fisher) had a superb long jump competition and finished 4th in the U17W age group just ahead of training partner Bella who was 6th. Bella completed a busy day with a shot putt competition that was 1 event too many and she finished 10th.
nOn Sunday over 5 glorious minutes the club then took gold, silver and a 4th place in 3 performances from the ages. At 1.15pm, 12 year old Lucia Bertacchini ran an astonishing time for a 12 year old of 42.27 secs to take 4th in the U15 girls 300m. This is the 56th fastest indoor time in history in this age group and must be one of the very quickest for a 12 year old. At 1.18pm, Harry Crosby (coach Andy Fisher) lying in 4th place snatched a silver medal with his 6th and last jump of the day in the U20M long jump. Harry recorded the furthest jump indoors ever recorded in a WADAC vest jumping 7.18m to land the silver medal. At 1.20pm, Arabella Wilson ran an astonish time of 39.53 secs to take gold in the U17W 300m. This time is the 15th fastest indoors in history and places Bella at 5th in the indoor world lists in the U18 age group. Leading the race from gun to tape, Bella ran the perfect indoor race to take her 2nd national title having been crowned U15 girls national combined events champion back last Summer. The day wasn't finished there as just as Bella was collecting her gold medal, Rebekah Smith (coach Andy Fisher) was making her debut for the club in the heats of the U15G 60m hurdles. Rebekah went safely through and in the semi-final ran a new pb, smashing the club indoor age group record with a time of 9.25 secs to make the final. Rebekah came 7th in the final and this finished a memorable day for the club.
