Rebekah, Lucia & Abi finish indoor season in style
The last of the indoor season's national championships took place in Sheffield at the weekend and this resulted in yet another top 5 finish from a WADAC athlete. The EA age group (U15/U17) indoor combined events was at their usual home at the English institute of sport and resulted in some great results from the 3 girls that made the trip.On Sunday, Rebekah Smith (coach Andy Fisher) finished in 5th place in the U15 girls age group ahead of training partner Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) who was 16th. The girls put in some remarkable performances with Rebekah breaking the clubs age group indoor shot putt record and ending up with a huge score of 2981 points. Lucia also pb'd in hurdles, SP & the 800m for a points total of 2556.U17 woman Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) competed on the Saturday and was a little disappointed with her points total of 2935 points for 14th place but this did include a new hurdles pb and was just 14 points down on her current best. With just a couple of weeks left of the indoor season it is worth reflecting that at the 5 indoor national champs this season (UK champs, National senior & U20 CE champs, National masters champs, National age group champs, National age group CE champs) a WADAC athlete has placed in the top 5 or better in all of them, all with different athletes. This breadth and level of performance is astonishing from a club that is truly on the rise.
