Youngsters shine at Hampshire schools junior champs
The Hampshire schools junior (U13 & U14) champs took place in Southampton on Wednesday and resulted in great success for the clubs young athletes.
nThe athletes were representing their school districts and as such it isn't always easy to spot every athlete who is a WADAC member but hopefully I haven't missed anybody out.
nIn the U14 girls age group (school year 8) Chloe Poore (coach Andy Fisher) finished 4th in the 100m with training partner Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) winning the 200m equalling her pb of 26.3 secs in doing so. Kate Atkinson (coach Nick Anderson) was 2nd in the 1500m and training partner Grace Baker (coach Nick Anderson) was 7th. Isobel Jordan (coach Andy Fisher) was 4th in the sprint hurdles and Gracie Osman (coach Andy Fisher) won the long jump in a new championship best performance of 5.31m beating the previous mark of a certain Holly Mills who competes for GB in the Heptathlon in the World championships on Sunday. Hattie Nott (coach Paul Cox) as 3rd with a huge new pb of 4.41m. Bethany Mballa (coach Heather Sheffield) won the shot putt with another putt of over 9m.
nFor the U14 boys (school year 8) Joel Stanton (coach Andy Fisher) was 6th in the 200m, and Seth Noott (coach Nick Anderson) was 2nd in the 800m with training partner Ethan Skipwith (coach Nick Anderson) 3rd in the 1500m. Daniel Par (coach Martin McBriar) was 8th in the discus but Ned Scott (coach Martin McBriar) took javelin gold with a throw of 33.94m with Laurence Hutchinson (coach Martin McBriar) not recording a mark on the day.
nIn the U13 girls age group (school year 7) Susie Ord (coach Paul Cox) was 4th in the 80m, Elodie Gill (coach Nick Anderson) was 6th in the 1000m with Ellie Jepson (coach Paul Cox) just behind in 8th. Lily Flute (coach Andy Fisher) took gold in the sprint hurdles going under 12 secs for the first time and training partners Esme Buchanan and Poppy Crook (coach Andy Fisher) took gold & silber respectively in the high jump.
nFor the U13 boys (school year 7) Joe Hasan (coach Paul Cox) was 3rd in the 600m with Iosu Harfield (coach Paul Cox) taking gold in the 1000m ahead of Oliver Foden (coach Paul Cox) in 5th. Sam Evans (coach Andy Fisher) was equal 2nd in the high jump with George Oldroyd (coach Paul Cox) 8th in the long jump finally Reuben Noott (coach Martin McBriar) took silver in the discus.
