Club enjoy a golden weekend in Manchester

The club's young athletes enjoyed a golden english schools championships bring back 3 titles and a bronze medal from the English schools championships in Manchester on Friday and yesterday. The stadium had a big crowd with thousands more watching on the live youtube stream.
nHere are how things unfolded in the order that they hapenned for the record number of WADAC young athletes who made the trip.
nLois Moore (coach Andy Fisher) got things underway in the field jumping 1.56m for 7th place in the JG HJ. Abi McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) was 11th in the JG discus.
nRebekah Smith (coach Andy Fisher) finished 6th in her heat of the JG 75mh finishing 11th overall with a time of 11.92. Rebekah was also part of the JG 4 x 100m relay team that came 7th. Grace Weeks (coach Gary Bettridge) was next up finishing 6th in her heat and 17th overall in the IG 80mh in a time of 11.98. Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) ran next on the track qualifying for the semi finals of the JG 300m with a time of 41.95. Lucia ran again at the end of the day and didn't make the final finishing 14th overall and also 7th in the JG 4 x 100m relay.
nLunch time came and the club claimed two medals in the space of a couple of hours. Amy Wall (coach Andy Fisher) sealed a bronze medal in the IG LJ with a clutch jump of 5.56m in the 6th & final round. This was followed by a magnificent performance by Charlie Elford-Pond (coach Eric Davison) who took gold in the IB Hammer with a huge throw of 61.43m to smash his pb and win the event by over 5m. Charlie secures an england schools vest and will represent his country on Saturday in the Home International schools match in Belfast. While this was going on, Harry Wilson (coach Nick Anderson) was safely securing his spot in the IB 1500m.
nNext up was the IG 300m heats where Carys Jeffries (coach Andy Fisher) finished 5th in her heat in a time of 46.70 secs missing out on the final and finishing in 13th place overall. Arabella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) qualified for the final. Next up the IB 400m where Ollie Withers (coach Andy Fisher) finished 3rd in his heat in a time of 50.34 and 11th overall just missing out on the final. Alex Beck (coach Mark Upton) qualified for the final in a huge pb of 49.71 secs. In the final events of the day Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) finished 7th in the IG discus with a throw of 28.49m and Gracie Osman (coach Andy Fisher) finished 5th in the JG LJ and was also part of the JG 4 x 100m relay team that came 7th.
nOn to yesterday which started in spectacular fashion with Arabella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) winning the 300mh in a new pb of 41.95 which is good enough to place her 6th on the UK all time age group list. Bella joins Charlie on the plane to Belfast winning her England schools vest for Saturday's home international match. Bella then won a further gold as part of Surrey's IG 4 x 100m winning team.
nMia Judd (coach Tony Bateman) began yesterday's action in the field finishing 6th in the IG HJ with a leap of 1.62m. Harry Crosby (coach Andy Fisher) unfortunately failed a late fitness test and couldn't take his place in the SB LJ. Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) finished 13th in the IG SP.
nIt was finals day on the track and Alex Beck (coach Mark Upton) completed a fantastic championships with 5th place in the IB 400m final. Lily Neate (coach Nick Anderson) was 15th in the SG 3000m final in a time just over 10 mins and Harry Wilson (coach Nick Anderson) was an agonising 4th in the IB 1500m being overtaking by two men just metres from the finishing line. Harry can console himself with a huge new pb and age group club record of 3 mins 55.69 secs.
nThe clubs final interest in the field took place in the SG LJ where Grace Colmer (coach Andy Fisher) was 8th with a leap of 5.41m.
nJust the relays remained which are always a great way to finish the champs, the best ever for the club in terms of particpation.
