Ruben Price top 10 at British Triathlon Championships

Four Wadac runners and triathletes travelled to sunny Sunderland at the weekend, to compete in the British Triathlon Super Series grand Final and British Championships. The last event in the youth and junior series calendar.
nFor Tristar 2 and 3 this is the opportunity to represent your region and race against the best in the country. Each category has a team of four boys and four girls and Wadac had Ben Philips in T2, Ruben Price and Ethan Skipwith in T3.
nSaturday saw the boys race heats in the morning and finals in the afternoon. Top 10 go through plus 6th fastest losers to an A and B final.
nUnfortunately Ben went over on his ankle when running, coming in 23rd but medics put him out of the final due to swelling. After a lot of icing, he was back for the relays on Sunday.
nRuben and Ethan put in strong performances, 4th and 12th respectively with both through to the A final.
nAll athletes had a 3 hour break before the final. Both boys backed up their efforts well with Ruben coming in 9th and 5th fastest run. Ethan 15th after an exciting sprint finish. A fantastic result bearing in mind this is their first full triathlon season.
nSouth Central region took gold in the overall competition and strongest region in the country.
nFor Youths and Juniors, this event is the grand final of the super series. Wadac runner Oscar Newbery competing as a first year youth A against stiff competition. The speeds these kids go is impressive to watch. Oscar didn’t have a great swim with sighting issues but backed up a fantastic transition from bike to run, to record the 5th fastest run and 33rd overall.
nGreat experience for the boys, no doubt motivating them going in to winter.
