Club volunteers help at Paralympic pb day
The Paralympic personal bests day is an annual multi-sport event that is held at the Winchester Sports & Leisure Centre site and took place for the 10th consecutive year yesterday.Superbly organised by the City Council, the event introduces adults in the community with a range of learning disabilities to different sports with a view to participating more regularly. Track & field sits alongside sports like rugby, squash and football that 150 or so budding athletes can try out in a safe and fun environment.WADAC provided 3 volunteer coaches for the day who helped facilitate the track & field training and the participants got to experience running and throwing at the Winchester track with great feedback received.David Howells who many will know through his organisation of the Winchester parkruns volunteered his time for the day to coach the running events alongside Janet Haughton and Head of Track & Field Andy Fisher who was supervising the throwing.Carers, athletes, volunteers, organisers and coaches had a wonderful day and anyone interested in volunteering their time for events such as these should contact Chair Paul who will add your name to the clubs list of prospective volunteers.
