Steve Goodwin wins the September Harestock Handicap

Perfect conditions once again for the handicap and an air of anticipation as the runners were all revved up and raring to go well ahead of the scheduled start. There was the usual healthy mix of warm-up strategies with a group enjoying some threshold reps on the Westman loop (using the handicap as an effort rep in a threshold session) and others using the handicap as an effort interval in the midst of a longer run....whatever works for you.Our winner, Steve Goodwin (8'00) is in midst of a compressed marathon training plan and attributed his success to his 5-mile warm-up - certainly that marathon conditioning looks to be paying off. Second was John Mills (7'46) ever present this year and seeming to improve with every passing month - John has added over 1'20 to his handicap this year! Third was Will Hadley (7'02) back for his second appearance of the year. On that note welcome Melissa Callister on her first appearance of the year.Fastest on the night was a tie between James Day (6'53) and Kevin Frisby (6'53) and inseperable pair who started together off the same handicap and pegged it round to finish together....James pipped it on the line but it was real mano a mano racing and we are all looking forward to next month's rematch. Bracken Dawson (6'56) is in that mix too as he makes his way back from a bit of an injury lay-off.
nJohn Mills continues to lead the way In the overall standings ahead of Louise Snook and a gaggle of others (Matt Gleed, Steve Oliver, Kevin Frisby, Ian Parker) who are in the frame for podium places. Only 2 athletes (John Mills and Louise Snook) are ever present and still in with a chance of 12 out of 12.
nThe next race in the Harestock Handicap series will be the first Thursday of October, the 6th of October, be there at the bus-stop ready to race at 19.30 or join us for some warm-up threshold work round the Westman mini-loop from 19.00.
