Gracie takes South of England gold

The first championship event of the new indoor season happened this weekend in North London as the South of England Combined Event indoor championships took place at the recently relaid Lee Valley track.
nWADAC was represented by 4 athletes, Abi Belward in the U17W age group where the 5 event pentathlon competition took place on the Saturday and Gracie Osman, Lucia Bertacchini and Lily Flute in the U15G age group whose pentathlon event took place yesterday.
n The girls were in magnificent form bringing in gold and bronze medals for the club along with a 4th and 10th place finish.
nAbi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) put a disappointing hurdles behind her to equal her pb in the high jump and a solid shot and long jump meant Abi was able to run a sedate 800m and still achieve an indoor pentathlon pb of 3003 points which was good enough to secure the bronze medal in the U17W age group.
nLily Flute (coach Andy Fisher) was gaining valuable experience in the bottom year of the U15G age group and performed well to achieve a top 10 finish ending the competition in 10th place with a 2310 points total. Training partner Lucia Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher) finished agonisingly out of the medals in 4th place despite an incredibly gutsy run in the 800m winning her heat and finishing with 2783 points by some way a new pb points total. Star of the show however was Gracie Osman (coach Andy Fisher) who sailed into the lead after a huge leap of 5.31m in the long jump and defended that lead in the 800m to finish with 2983 points good enough for 2nd place on the clubs all time indoor age group lists and give her a place at the top of the podium.
