Alex sets Commonwealth Youth games qualifying standard
Alex Beck (coach Mark Upton) goes from strength to strength and put in another scintillating performance on the track at Loughborough yesterday. The open meeting was the first of several specially arranged permit 2 meetings by England Athletics to aid qualification for the Commonwealth Youth Games and Alex put 1 foot on the plane to Trinidad by running 48.06 secs in the 400m well under the required standard of 48.20.Cheered on by Dad and coach Alex's performance puts him 2nd on the clubs all time list (any age group) and promotes him to 12th place on the current world U18 list and to the European No 1 spot and also top of the UK U20 rankings. Also at Loughborough Abi Belward (coach Andy Fisher) pushed the 3kg shot out to a new pb of 12.02m which comfortably exceeds the English schools qualifying standard and puts Abi as the current no 1 in the Welsh U17 shot putt rankings. Beth Austin (coach Andy Fisher) ran a seasons best time in the 400m hurdles but training partner Bella Wilson (coach Andy Fisher) didn't have the best day crashing out of the 400m hurdles at hurdle 6.
