Young athletes shine in the rain

I have been away last week so apologies for radio silence on the website. There are a few individual track & field results from last week to catch up on which I will update on tomorrow but the league season started for the club yesterday with the first round of matches in the Wessex League. The Wessex League is a development league which the club uses to be as inclusive as possible with everybody wanting to take part getting a place and priority given to those not likely to be selected for our YDL or SAL teams. It is also the only league available to our U11 squad who compete in the Quadkids competition. The U11's started the season is magnificent form with both the girls and the boys comfortably winning their matches and obviously we won the overall U11 match with 1625 points nearly 300 points more than the 2nd place team Oxford City AC.The main match features athletes in the U13 through to U17 age groups and we came 2nd in this match beding Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC. With over 70 young athletes taking part for the club it isn't possible to list individual performances but these have been sent to the parents of those taking part and their coaches. There were some amazing performances on the day and well done if you were representing WADAC for the very first time as a number of the young athletes did.A special mention goes to officials Simon Stevens, David Saunders and Heather Sheffield without whom the match couldn't have taken place and to Team Managers Susan & Polly and Mark & Steve who had so many young athletes to organise. At the opposite end of the spectrum our next league match is a week today with our vets teams in action in the first round of the Hampshire vets league in Portsmouth. Hopefully the weather will be a bit brighter.
