Harestock Handicap - April 2023
Perfect conditions for the April Handicap with the rain just catching the early warmups but clearing for the race itself. The light nights always bring a few out from hibernation so we had 4 athletes making their first appearance of the year and close racing from start to finish.
nOur winner on the night was Adrian Field, a veteran of the event and continuing his record of having taken part in the handicap every year since it's inception....there's not a lot of people in that club! Congratulations Adrian (8'48 net) coming back under handicap and keeping ahead of Lynn McKeague (8'28 net) and Andrew Robinson (7'40 net) as they were closing down the home straight.
nFastest on the night was James Day (6'46) and the fastest lady was Lynn McKeague (8'28). Special mention here for Paul Horler fresh from his marathon PB at Brighton and 2nd fastest man with an impressive but perhaps ill-advised (7'08).
nAs regards the overall standings it's still too early to say anything other than it's all still wide open and with all the discards even if you haven't yet run a handicap in 2023 you could still be the overall winner. That said it's worth mentioning that Steve Oliver has his nose in front - albeit just ahead of Paul Oxley and Lynn McKeague.
nMore importantly with a few regulars missing (imagine going away for the Easter weekend) we're now down to there now being only 8 people in the whole world who still have a chance of winning a coveted "12 out of 12" medal.
nThe May Handicap will be, as ever, on the first Thursday of the month...the 4th May 2023.....apparently there is a local election on so don't forget your polling cards (and ID too this time).
nMeet at the bus-stop warmed up and ready to go at 19.30 (the run/handicap/run combo) or join us up there from 19.00 for some threshold loops as your warmup with the handicap lap as a "fast rep" to finish (the thresh/handicap combo).
