A cold start for the clubs young triathletes at the weekend

After what has felt like a long winter of training and Cross Country racing, it was exciting to get the triathlon season started with a number of our triathletes moving up to the Youth Category.
nThis wasn't an issue for Kali Ruffell Moreira however with a fine win at the Bath duathlon and first youth female. Her run training with the WADAC Endurance Academy over winter clearly paying off.
nLast weekend it was the Woking Triathlon and Aquathlon. An extremely cold morning didn't put off our intrepid athletes with Ben Carr competing in the Mens Sprint event with a 400m swim, 21.6km bike and 5km run. Ben was first junior and 25th overall, a fantastic effort. Ben and Henry Phillips were competing in the kids events with Henry coming 3rd Tristar. Ben miscounted his laps but is looking strong for the season ahead. Laura Speirs took part in the Aqauthlon event and came 11th TS3.
nKali was competing again last weekend with Ruben Price and Oscar Newbery at the British Triathlon Performance Assessments.
nThe Performance Assessment Weekend takes place as the first event on the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series. All athletes with aspirations to race on the British Youth and Junior Super Series are required to attend the PA’s, with the results from the weekend setting the order of entry for the initial races. Youth, Junior and Senior athletes completed a swim time-trial at the University of Nottingham on Saturday, before taking on a combined bike-run at Prestwold Hall in a pursuit format the following day with over 380 athletes competing. Details of the series can be found here: Home - SuperSeries (britishsuperseries.com)
nKali came 22nd out of 65 in the swim 24s off the leader and 40th on the bike-run after an unfortunate hold up behind a crash. Ruben with good form after his cross country season coming in 24th out of 89 in the swim, 28s off the leader and 29th on the bike-run, again being delayed by a rider in front with bike issues. Strong performances as first years in this category.
nOscar Newbery, also a member of the WADAC Endurance Academy came 57th in the swim and 23rd in the bike-run.
nThe next event for these athletes is Llanelli on May 13th.
