Rebekah flies in the Portsmouth wind

It’s windy at the Portsmouth track even on a calm day so imagine the conditions with Storm Kathleen blowing in as wind seppeds of up to +7.5 were recorded for some races at the Portsmouth Open on Sunday.

Nevertheless, some great performances were put down by WADAC athletes and none more so than Rebekah Smith (coach Dave McManus) who won the shot putt with a huge pb of 11.23m and also recorded a pb in the javelin going over 30m for the first time. Christopher Wood (coach Martin McBriar) went over 27m with the javelin and 21m with the discus respectively before recording a pb in the shot putt and Reuben Noott (coach Martin McBriar) also threw well in the discus. Abi & Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) both opened their seasons nicely in the discus.

On the track, Hayden Rogers (cach Dave Sherry) won a windy 100m and won his 200m heat where the wind was legal. Philip Krinks (coach Dave sherry) was unfortunately denied a pb in the 200m by the wind and also ran the 400m. Lily Flute (coach Andy Fisher) opened her outdoor season the 300m and Joe Green (coach David Vosser) had his first track races for the club in both the 400m & 1500m. Ed Fillbrook (coach Andy Fisher) broke his pb in coming 3rd in his 400m heat.

In the 800m Eddie Chambers (coach James Mann) got his track season underway as did training partner Seb Murray (coach James Mann) who also ran the 1500m for good measure. Owen Watts (coach David Vosser) ran the 800m as did Elodie Gill (coach James Mann) and Frankie Bertacchini (coach Andy Fisher).
