Racing continues to come thick and fast for the junior tri group

The racing continues to come thick and fast now that the triathlon season is truly underway. And there were some miles clocked up at the weekend, with Winchester Junior Tri Club’s triathletes competing in various parts of the country, as well as in Scotland. The first podium place of the weekend was from Ethan Skipwith (Youth A) who came a brilliant 2nd at Vale Tridents Aquathlon in Faringdon on the Saturday. The majority of the triathletes headed to the South Central League event, ‘Beachborough and Brackley Triathlon’ on the Sunday to race at beautiful Stowe School (which was originally built in the 1600s), Buckingham, this is a fantastically run event in their impressive grounds.‘Going to the toilets was like visiting a museum and having a history lesson’, the kids exclaimed. There were sculptures and art everywhere. The racing started with the oldest age groups and Ben Carr (Youth A) was up first, showing our younger triathletes how it’s done. He had a strong race and despite falling off on a tight bend and his chain coming off, he came a very respectable 5th place in a competitive field. Theo Hoath (TriStar 3) competing in the lower year of TriStar 3 had a fantastic race, coming 8th.It was then the turn of our TriStar 2 athletes who are having a great season as well as getting stronger and more confident each race, which is fantastic to see. Ben Phillips who is in his element when racing, especially on the bike, came 6th with his training partner, Tom Price, coming 12th. Amber Price who initially thought she had just made the Top 10, when the results were gradually coming through, was then very pleasantly surprised to find out she had actually come 1st. Last but not least, it was the turn of our youngest triathlete Henry Phillips (TriStar) who is just starting his journey in this multisport event, taking it all in his stride and coming a brilliant 4th.The TriStar 2s were poised and all ready to race in the mixed-relay that was taking after place after the individual events, but sadly this was cancelled at the very last minute as there were concerns about a potential thunderstorm and the safety of the triathletes. A life lesson that things don't always go to plan, they had had a good day, so took this little hiccup in their stride. Finally, Ruben Price (Youth A) came a consistent 11th place, in each of his three events, at the Lochore Aquathlon event in Scotland, part of the British Triathlon Youth & Junior Super Series. Great experience in first year of Super Series. These young triathletes are learning all the time and it’s wonderful to see their progress.Next up this weekend is Mallory Park Super Series for Ruben Price, Ethan Skipwith and Kali Ruffell-Moreira and Bowood House South Central League for our TS2s and TS3s vying for Regional Championships selection.
