Sportshall Grand Prix Fareham Academy
The second Sportshall Grand Prix took place at Fareham Academy giving athletes a chance for Sportshallers to compete in an environment outside of the normal League set up. The athletes take part in 1 Lap & 2 Lap races as well as Standing Long Jump: Standing Triple Jump ; Speed Bounce and Soft Javelin. In the Under 11 Boys category Sam Mballa had his best competition so far with an excellent 4th place out of 35 competitors throwing the Javelin a fine 19 metres. Billy Brackley was slightly under par with a rugby injury but still managed a decent 12th lace overall having good runs in both 1 & 2 Laps. In the Under 11 girls Beth Thorpe who was to compete for Hampshire Sportshall team a few days later, finished a solid 3rd position in a very competitive event with 37 participants. Beth had the fastest 2 Lap performance and the 3rd best 1 Lap. Also taking part were Annabella Marsh 20th and twins Katya Orchard and Clara Woodhouse who were in their very first competition. The Under 13 Boys section was dominated by WADAC athletes with Doug Scally 2nd Sam Roberts 3rd and Iwan Wrey-Brown 4th. Doug had the best SLJ of 2.14m and Sam bounced his way to the best Speed Bounce of 84. Freya Brannigan and Grace White finished equal 6th in the Under 13 girls event with Freya storming to the fastest 2 Lap time and Grace running the 2nd best 1 Lap time, both girls have recently been selected for the Under 13 Hampshire Sportshall team. Lucia Wall was 14th gaining invaluable experience.
