interested in becoming a trustee at WADAC
WADAC is run by a committee of volunteers consisting of three elected officers (chair, treasurer, and secretary), and individuals appointed to the following roles: the welfare officer, junior waiting list coordinator, development officer, team managers and officials coordinator, and the junior triathlon coordinator.
nA list of the current committee is here: https://www.wadac.org.uk/about/committee-members and the various roles on the committee are in a link at the top of the page (including vacant ones such as the IT officer, volunteer coordinator, and communication officer). We can appoint four more committee members under the constitution.
n
nFollowing the recent survey, we understand that there are quite a few people interested in a committee or elected officer role and, as a club and committee, we recognise that we need to do more to prime people for those roles and onboard them better. Ideally, the plan would be to bring the future elected officers through the committee first in a committee role so they can learn more about the club, but this is not strictly necessary. There is a vice chair role which is appointed by the committee and it is envisaged that this person would eventually become chair when the current one steps down.
n
nAcross athletics and throughout the history of this club, it is not always easy to get people to volunteer for these roles, but as many current and previous trustees will tell you it is often very rewarding and a good way to give back to the club. The committee members will be asked to undertake certain roles at the club and to represent the views of certain sections of the club in which they are involved, which will vary in time depending on what the role is, and to attend committee meetings five times a year on a Monday (for about two hours each). We know from the recent survey that many members do not have enough time to undertake these roles, but that may change for them in the future.
n
nSo, do consider this and any member, parent, official, coach and team manager is invited to come forward if you wish to understand the opportunity further and are interested in taking up this opportunity this year or in the future when family and work commitments are less.
n
nAs a starting point, I am planning to hold an online or in person meeting on Monday 11 July at 7.30pm for those interested in learning more (I prefer an in person meeting). I would also welcome any thoughts on how we can onboard potential trustees better and current ideas include a welcome pack explaining everything, and an opportunity to shadow committee members and attend meetings for a certain period without any obligation to join. Please let me know if you wish to attend and if you would prefer an online or in person meeting.
n Any other thoughts welcomed from members.
