Success for clubs youngsters at Schools inter-counties match

The schools inter-counties match took place in Kingston on Saturday with lots of the clubs young athletes taking part. Restricted to the junior (U15) and intermediate (U17) age groups this is traditionally the last chance opportunity to win a place in the Hampshire schools team for the English schools championships.For the U17 women, Grace Weeks (coach Gary Bettridge) was 3rd in the a race of the sprint hurdles with training partner Alice Eyssens (coach Gary Bettridge) 2nd in the b race. Carys Jeffries (coach Andy Fisher) won the 300m hurdles and Mia Judd (coach Tony Bateman) was 2nd in the high jump and 5th in the long jump where Amy Wall (coach Andy Fisher) finished 2nd. Erin McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) won the discus and was 3rd in the hammer. For the U17 men, Rohan Gray (coach Mark Upton) was 4th in the a race of the 100m. Alex Beck (coach Mark Upton) won the 400m and Harry Wilson (coach Nick Anderson) did likewise in the 800m, Will Atkins (coach Nick Anderson) was 9th in the 1500m. Gus Bowden (coach Andy Fisher) was 2nd in the high jump and 7th in the sprint hurdles and Sello Mtshweni (coach Elias Mtshweni) was 4th in the pole vault. Max Turner (coach Andy Fisher) was 4th in the long jump and Sam Mballa (coach Heather Sheffield) was 7th in the triple jump and Charlie Elford-Pond (coach Eric Davison) was 2nd in the hammer and shot putt.For the U15 girls, Elise Brindle (coach Dave Sherry) was 2nd in the a race of the 200m and Poppy Taylor (coach Nick Anderson) was 2nd in the 1500m. Rebekah Smith (coach Andy Fisher) was 3rd in the sprint hurdles and Gracie Osman (coach Andy Fisher) won the long jump. Bethany Mballa (coach Heather sheffield) was 2nd in the shot putt and 5th in the javelin with Abi McBriar (coach Martin McBriar) 3rd in the dicus and 5th in the hammer where training partner Evie Scott (coach Martin McBriar) was 2nd.For the U15 boys, Seth Noott (coach Nick Anderson) was 6th in the 800m with training partner Ruben Price (coach Nick Anderson) 7th in the 1500m to complete all the WADAC performances, Ned Scott (coach Martin McBriar) was 5th in the javelin.The full Hampshire schools team was selected after the match and those not already notified were done so on Sunday morning. This will be announced on the Hampshire Athletics website in due course.
