Evie smashes her pb

Winter throws competitions are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, particularly as the long throwers don't get a chance to hone their skills on the indoor circuit.
nHead of throws Martin McBriar took his squad to Basingstoke on Saturday to take part in such a competition and despite difficult conditions, there were some great performances, some of which in their new track & field age groups. All athletes are coached by Martin McBriar except where indicated differently.
nPerformance of the day went to Evie Scott who added 5m to her pb with the hammer throwing 39.74m to introuduce herself to the U17W age group with the 2nd best performance the club has seen in the age group. Richard White showed it's never too late to start track & field with V50 debut performances in both hammer & discus. Erin & Abi McBriar both threw close to their pb's with the discus with Erin also having a decent throw with the hammer. Charlie Elford-Pond (coach Eric Davison) introduced himself to the 6kg hammer with a 53.56m throw to go 2nd on the clubs all time age group list and will no doubt shortly chase down Sam Clifton's club record with his new weight.
nThe slipery javelin run up made things very difficult for those throwing the spear and this was reflected in the performances of Harry Jones, Ned Scott & Jessica Howells.
