CC6 results - Winchester takes the team double!

The CC6 season culminated at a rather soggy Itchen Valley Park. True cross country terrain had been prepared by heavy rain the previous day. Although the weather was temperate the competitive spirit from the Winchester athletes provided anything but mild. The conditions were slippery and a technical course put a premium on good traction underfoot. The turnout of 15 men and 7 women made it to the start. Funnily enough every CC6 race had 7 Winchester women competing (not always the same 7 mind!).
nThe women's team were defending their leading position at the start of the day and had to hold off a stong Lordshill performance. But coming second on Sunday was good enough to clinch the series team win. Emma Carter leading the team with a best ever 2nd, followed by another regular stalwart Sian Lewis 4th and newcomer Anna Bion 7th. This also sealed Emma as V50 Champion while Sian came 2nd overall in the series.
nThe men's team had to overhaul a significant lead held by Southampton. A super strong turnout not only proved too much for the competition on the day but it also allowed us to achieve a double team victory for the season. Callum Upton won the race on the day, Harry Williams 9th, James Moore 10th and "ultra man" Wayne Bevan 12th completed the men's team, having jogged down to the course along the Itchen way! Individually Dave Vosser's 44th confirmed his 2nd placing for 22/23 in the V60 category. Rob Carter's 39th placed him as the best Winchester V50 man and 3rd overall in his age catergory. While James Moore's consistent, and fast, performances saw him come 10th overall in the men's catergory.
nThere were plenty of excellent performances, some from CC6 regulars like Mark Wilson, Paul Horler, Jonny Heron and your captain Stephen Lowy, but also it was good see some of the younger runners strengthening the club on the day. Thank you all. It will all begin again next autumn, but in the mean time I look forward to seeing some of you at the Wednesday evening RR10s starting on the 19th April at Fleming Park.
